** CP Ama visits victim’s family

Anambra– Unidentified Gunmen shot dead two persons in separate attacks across Awka on Sunday, 30th August 2026, sparking widespread outrage and an immediate police crackdown.
According to the Anambra State Police Command public relations officer, SP Tochukwu Ikenga, three unidentified assailants travelling in a silver‑coloured Toyota Corolla with an unconfirmed registration number carried out the shootings at two locations – along Capital City Road, Amaenyi, and S.M. Okeke Street, Amaikwo. Police operatives on patrol who responded to distress calls recovered the bodies of the victims and rushed them to a hospital, where they were pronounced dead by medical personnel.
One of the victims has been identified as Isaac Nwosu, also known as "Azia," while the other remains unidentified. Items recovered from the scenes included ₦7,550 in cash, a Moniepoint ATM card, and a pair of slippers.
Reacting to the incident, the Anambra state Commissioner of Police, CP Nnanna Oji Ama, condemned the killings in the strongest terms, describing them as "unacceptable and a direct affront to the peace and security of the State."
The CP ordered the immediate transfer of the case to the State Criminal Investigation Department (SCID), Awka, for a discreet and comprehensive investigation. Security operatives have since intensified patrols, surveillance, and intelligence‑gathering across Awka and surrounding areas.
The Command also appealed to community leaders, residents, motorists, and business owners who may have witnessed the incidents or have credible information about the suspects or their vehicle to come forward, assuring that all tips would be treated with utmost confidentiality.
CP Ama also paid a condolence visit to the family of the victim, late Isaac Nwosu On Monday, 31st August, describing him as "an asset to the State" whose contributions to the Command’s security advocacy would be greatly missed. He reassured the family and all Ndi Anambra that the police would pursue the matter with determination and urged continued trust in the integrity of the investigative process.
The visit followed a two‑hour closed‑door strategic meeting earlier in the day, where the CP convened operational officers to reassess public intelligence and strengthen security operations in Awka. He directed all relevant operational and investigative units to intensify efforts toward identifying and apprehending the perpetrators.
The Command reiterated that community partnership remains critical to effective policing and called on residents to provide timely information that could help prevent further attacks and bring the killers to justice.
