Tragedy as UNIBEN part-time student is shot dead at school gate

A part-time student of the University of Benin (UNIBEN) was shot dead on Sunday evening around 5:00pm at the main entrance of the Ugbowo campus in an incident suspected to be linked to cult activities.

The deceased, a part-time Political Science student whose identity is yet unknown, was killed while seated inside his GLE Mercedes-Benz.

Eyewitnesses reports indicate the victim was driving out of the university premises when the gunmen struck around 5 p.m. on Sunday, May 10, 2026, opposite 19 Street, Ugbowo.

A viral video circulating on social media, sighted by The Warden, suggests the student was attacked shortly after completing his semester examinations.

The Edo state police command when contacted revealed that investigations are ongoing to apprehend all suspects involved in the incident.
