Operatives of the Nigeria Police Force, in collaboration with the Badagry Local Joint Task Force (JTF), have uncovered another suspected illegal recruitment syndicate in Ajara Topa area of Badagry, Lagos State.

The operation, carried out at Yemat Close, Ajara Topa, led to the detention of 19 suspects.

Police said three of those detained are foreign nationals, comprising two citizens of Congo and one from the Republic of Benin, adding that investigations are ongoing to determine the role played by each of the suspects.

Preliminary investigation showed that the operation followed a complaint by a recruit from Benue State, who alleged that he was lured to Lagos with the promise of securing employment.

The complainant reportedly told investigators that on arrival in Lagos, he was informed that he would have to pay N1.3 million before he could get the promised job.

He also alleged that he was subjected to poor treatment, raising suspicions about the activities of the organisation, which prompted police intervention.

Police said investigations are continuing to unravel the activities of the suspected syndicate and establish the culpability of those in custody.
