Operatives of the Lagos State Police Command have arrested a 27-year-old suspected cultist, Yusuf Lamina Adigun, and recovered a locally made pistol loaded with one live cartridge during a stop-and-search operation in the Ijaiye/Ojokoro area of the state.

The Command said the suspect was arrested after officers intercepted a motorcycle conveying three passengers as part of ongoing efforts to combat cultism and other violent crimes across Lagos.

Police spokesperson, SP Abimbola Adebisi, said a search conducted on the passengers led to the recovery of the firearm from Adigun.

According to her, the suspect confessed during preliminary interrogation to being a member of the Eiye Confraternity.

She added that Adigun also disclosed that he and other members of the cult group, who escaped arrest, were on their way to attack some individuals before they were intercepted by the police.

“The suspect is currently in police custody, while efforts are ongoing to arrest the fleeing members of the criminal group and recover additional weapons that may be in their possession,” the statement said.

The Commissioner of Police, Lagos State Command, CP Tijani Fatai, reaffirmed the Command’s commitment to intelligence-led policing and proactive operations aimed at tackling cultism and other violent crimes.

He urged residents to remain vigilant and provide timely and credible information to assist the police in preventing crime and safeguarding lives and property across the state.
