Barr. Chijioke Ezugwu records major milestone in Enugu State

By Florencemary Nwabueze The Executive Chairman of Uzo-Uwani Local Government Area, Barr. Chijioke Ezugwu, has recorded major achievements in security, infrastructure, urban development, education, and human capital development since assuming office. In effort to strengthen grassroots security, Barr. Ezugwu’s has recruited more than 360 watch personnel into the state local security known has ‘The Neighborhood’ across the 16 political wards of Uzo-wani LGA. He further equipped the Neighborhood with three Sienna patrol vehicles, one gun truck, 25 motorcycles, three power bikes, and other modern security gadgets. The chairman also personally led efforts to fight against kidnapping and criminal activities in the local government, leveraging in prior experience as chief Security officer of Uzo-Uwani before elected Executive Chairman. In infrastructure and rural development, Ezegwu has cleared and widened major roads, hereby curbing security threats and improving visibility and access to remote communities. These include the 40-kilometre Ozzi–Edem–Nrobo–Ezikolo–Abbi–Nimbo road, the Nkpologu–Uvuru–Ukpata–Adaba–Nkume–Umulokpa road, the 44-kilometre Obimo–Nkpologu–Ukpabi–Nimbo–Opanda–Adani road, as well as roads leading to Akpugo and Nkpunato communities. He further constructed and asphalted a three-kilometre road linking Orie Nkpologu, Amidi Village, and Umuanogo Village. He also constructed the roads linking Amabanyi Village–Ugbene Ajima and Eziani in Nsukka LGA, Enugu state. He flagged off the ongoing construction of a new Local Government Secretariat in Umulokpa, while the old dilapidated secretariat is transformed into a modern administrative structure. A new Governor Peter Mbah Administrative Block is also under construction at the council headquarters. The chairman not leaving stone unturned has boosted commercial activities with the construction of an ultra-modern market complex in Nkpologu, while a Command and Control Centre is being built along the Uvuru–Ukpata road. He has also rehabilitated the bridge at Ogurugu Community. To support security infrastructure, he renovated and refurbished the proposed Police Station at Camp Nkpologu, including the installation of 60–70 solar-powered streetlights, construction of pedestrian pathways linking six blocks, and upgrading of the station’s borehole into an ultra-modern water facility. Similarly, he has renovated, fenced and painted the Nigerian Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC) quarters at Opanda-Nimbo. Under his administration, water and energy projects featured prominently, with solar-powered boreholes drilled across all 16 Smart Schools in the LGA, as well as in communities such as Amidi-Nkpologu, Opanda-Nimbo, Nkume, Amabor Village, Uvuru, Nrobo, and Ukpabi-Nimbo. He also procured 500 KVA and 300 KVA transformers waiting commissioning in Ajona-Ogbo, Ukpata, Nrobo, and Owere-Nimbo, and installed 150-200 solar streetlight stands from Amaoshebe Village to Ogba Nkpologu and within Amidi Village, Uzo –Uwani local government. In the education sector, the he built the Adada Secondary School Annex, relocating the school closer to its host community. Awarded scholarship to over 200 secondary school students across Uzo-Uwani and empowered over 1,000 youths across the LGA through various initiatives. He made various efforts in community development by constructing community town halls in Amidi, Uwenu, and Amaokpo villages. Graded and cleared 11 kilometre rural access roads linking Nkpologu to Akpugo-Ezedike community, a project he executed twice in his administration. He has also graded and cleared both flanks of the 3-kilometre roads leading to Nkpunato community, re-graded and cleared the Nvuru-Ukpata-Adaba-Nkume-Umulokpa road for a second time, ensuring sustained accessibility. Following Barr. Chijioke Ezeugwu unwavering commitment to the people, Uzo-Uwani has enjoyed great projects underscored, security, urban development and improved quality of life.
