The Anambra State Police Command has cracked a three-month-old murder case, arresting two suspects in connection with the killing of a 33-year-old woman whose body was dumped in a culvert in Oraifite.
This was disclosed in a statement signed by Anambra state police public relations officer SP Tochukwu Ikenga on Wednesday and posted on Facebook.
The suspects, Thankgod Ikechukwu Ikwugwara, 26, and Makuochukwu Uzoigwe, 20, were apprehended on June 6, 2026, following an intense investigation by the State Criminal Investigation Department, Awka.
According to the command "The case originated on 13th March, 2026, when the deceased mother reported her missing daughter at the Oraifite Divisional Police Headquarters. The following day, 14th March, 2026, the lifeless body of an unidentified female was discovered inside a culvert near Jesus Bus Stop, Oraifite. The deceased father later identified the body as that of his missing daughter." The statement reads
The comand further disclosed that during interrogation, the principal suspect, Ikwugwara, reportedly confessed to orchestrating the murder.
"He stated that he had been in a relationship with the deceased for about three years and claimed he was unaware that she was married.
"He further alleged thatb after a disagreement with the deceased's husband, he developed a strange illness that affected his sight, and out of resentment, he plotted the attack.
"The suspects further confessed that on 13th march, 2026, he lured the deceased to his residence under the guise of seeking help due to illness. Upon her arrival, he and the second suspect allegedly attacked her with a machete, resulting in her death. The suspects reportedly disposed of the body in the culvert near Jesus Bus Stop, Oraifite in the early hours of the following day." The statement reads
Commissioner of Police, Anambra State Command, CP Ikioye Orutugu, commended the detectives for their resilience and professionalism in uncovering the case. He reaffirmed the Command's commitment to ensuring justice for victims of crime.
"Both suspects have confessed to their involvement in the crime and will be charged to court upon the completion of investigations." The statement reads
