The president of Nigeria Bola Ahmed Tinubu, has directed the immediate rollout of 100,000 CNG conversion kits to reduce transportation costs amid rising fuel prices linked to the Middle East conflict.

In a statement issued by the Executive Chairman of the Presidential Initiative on CNG, Ismaeel Ahmed after a meeting with the President in Abuja, the kits, to be deployed within 2–3 weeks, will allow vehicle owners, including tricycle operators, to switch to gas.

Tinubu also ordered accelerated development of CNG refuelling and EV charging infrastructure, especially along northern transport corridors.

Currently, 77 CNG stations are under construction nationwide. Operational sites include two LCNG stations in Kano, with more planned along the Lokoja–Maiduguri route.

The initiative is partnering with local and foreign manufacturers to boost vehicle conversion and local assembly of CNG and electric vehicles. It is also working with the Rural Electrification Agency to build solar-powered charging stations in off-grid areas.

Ismaeel further statd that the goal is to provide Nigerians with cheaper, cleaner transport options.
