Police crackdown on unregistered vehicles in Enugu State

The Commissioner of Police Enugu State, CP Bitrus Giwa has launched a statewide enforcement operation against unregistered vehicles and those with obscured, defaced, or unlawfully covered number plates, following directive from the Inspector-General of Police Olatunji Rilwan Disu, which mandates the impoundment of such vehicles and prosecution of offenders across Nigeria.

According to a press statement signed by the commands public relations officer SP Daniel Ndukwe on Thursday, A
authorities cite security risks, noting that these vehicles are frequently used in criminal activities and violate existing laws.

"CP Giwa emphasized that unregistered vehicles and tampered, obscured, defaced, or concealed number plates undermine law enforcement efforts, frustrate crime detection and investigation, and oare often used by criminals elements to evade identification and areest.

" He therefore charged supervisory officers to ensure that the enforcement is carried out strictly in accordance with the law and with the utmost professionalism, civility , and respect for citizen's rights."

The Command revealed that the Commissioner has issued a stern warning against misconduct, declaring that any officer found exploiting the exercise for extortion, harassment, or other forms of abuse will face severe disciplinary sanctions.

The Commissioner also urge motorists operating unregistered vehicles or using defaced, obscured, or unlawfully covered plates, except where expressly permitted by law, to desist forthwith and comply with all relevant regulations.

CP Giwa further appealed to residents to remain law-abiding, vigilant, and supportive of efforts to enhance public safety by reporting criminal activities and suspicious persons to the nearest police station.

He encouraged the public to report any police misconduct through the Command's Complaint Response Unit.
