Police arrest 16-year-old robbery suspect, recover fake pistol in Anambra

Operatives of the Anambra State Police Command have arrested a 16-year-old boy, suspected to be an accomplice in an armed robbery incident that occurred in Amansea, Awka North Local Government Area of the state.

The suspect, identified as Udochukwu Nwankwo, was apprehended in the early hours of Wednesday, September 2, 2026, during a security patrol by police officers attached to B Division, Amansea.

According to the command Public Relations Officer SP Tochukwu Ikenga, the teenager and two other accomplices who are currently on the run allegedly attacked a guest at a hotel in the area and robbed her of her mobile phone and other personal belongings.

Police also revealed that the police operatives recovered a shiny metallic lighter designed to resemble a pistol, which the suspect reportedly used to threaten and dispossess the victim of her valuables.

During interrogation, Nwankwo allegedly confessed to using the replica firearm to intimidate victims during robbery operations.

The police has intensified investigations and are making efforts to track down the fleeing suspects, recover the stolen phone and other items, and ensure that all those found culpable are brought to justice.
