The Movement for the Actualization of the Sovereign State of Biafra (MASSOB) has condemned the renewed wave of xenophobic attacks against foreign nationals in South Africa, alleging that some people of Biafran extraction have been affected by the violence.

MASSOB also urged its members at home and in the diaspora to remain committed to the principles of non-violence and lawful conduct, describing them as worthy ambassadors of the Biafran cause.

In a statement signed by its National Director of Information, Comrade Edeson Samuel, the group said its members have continued to distinguish themselves through peaceful conduct despite challenges and alleged persecution.

The statement noted that MASSOB, under the leadership of Comrade Uchenna Madu, remains committed to non-violent agitation and has no record of involvement in criminal activities either in Nigeria or abroad.

While condemning attacks on foreign residents in South Africa, the group called on the international community and human rights organisations to intervene and ensure the protection of lives and property.

MASSOB specifically decried what it described as the killing and destruction of the property of some people of Biafran origin residing in South Africa, urging authorities in the country to take decisive steps to halt the violence.

The pro-Biafra organisation also commended its members across the diaspora, particularly those in Australia and Europe, for what it described as exemplary civic conduct and respect for the laws of their host countries.

According to the group, Biafrans living abroad should continue to project a positive image through responsible behaviour, hard work and obedience to the laws of their respective countries.

MASSOB further reassured its members that it would continue to pursue its self-determination objectives through peaceful means, insisting that non-violence remains the cornerstone of its struggle despite what it termed repeated provocations and harassment by security agencies.

The group urged its members worldwide to remain steadfast, disciplined and focused on the pursuit of their ideals while continuing to uphold the values of peace and responsible citizenship.
