The Lagos State Fire and Rescue Service has launched a major compliance enforcement exercise across key industrial corridors in the state on Tuesday 10th march, to address rising fire safety concerns.

In a statement signed by the agency’s Senior Public Affairs Officer, Fadairo Maria, the service said the the enforcement exercise comes amids increasing reports of fire emergencies across Lagos.

The Controller General, Margaret Abimbola Adeseye, led inspection teams to the Amuwo-Odofin Industrial Layout and facilities along the Badagry Expressway to assess the preparedness of high-risk facilities.

The inspections evaluated key fire safety requirements including valid fire safety documentation, fire insurance coverage, emergency preparedness, functionality of firefighting equipment, and proper storage arrangements.

Adeseye noted that while some companies maintained acceptable safety standards, others were found lacking in critical areas such as poor ventilation, blocked gangways, and unsafe storage conditions that pose serious fire risks.

She warned that companies must comply with the agency’s recommendations or face sanctions.

Facilities inspected included logistics and showroom spaces at Bijoux Building Company, Sweet Home Bathroom Limited, and Adems Market.

The team also assessed the cold room at Premium Aquaculture Limited and production lines at Prima Corporation Limited.

Further inspections covered Lacasera Company Plc (Plant 2), Ovas Luxury Doors, and facilities under Primlaks Nigeria Group, including Paramount Frozen Foods Limited, Venus Processing and Packaging Limited, and Best Store.

According to Adeseye, the ongoing exercise is part of a broader statewide campaign to prevent avoidable industrial fire disasters.
