Lagos police set to launch VCRU, receive major equipment boost from LSSTF

In a significant push to enhance public safety, the Lagos State Police Command has begun final preparation to officially launch the newly formed Violent Crime Response Unit-VCRU on lagos, as it receives a fresh cache of
operational assets from the Lagos State Security Trust Fund-LSSTF.

This was announced on Saturday in a statement signed by the police public relations officer SP Abimbola Adebisi.

The VCRU is one of the ongoing reform initiatives of the Nigeria Police Force under the leadership of the Inspector-General of Police, IGP Olatunji Disu.

The newly acquired assets, presented to the Command on Saturday, are designed to boost the newly established unit’s capacity for crime prevention and rapid response. The items include two operational vehicles, fifty ballistic helmets, fifty bulletproof vests, and fifty ballistic shields.

While presenting the equipment, the Executive Secretary of the LSSTF, Ayodele Ogunsan, reaffirmed the Fund’s unwavering commitment to supporting security agencies in the state. He noted that providing critical logistics and operational gear is essential for efficient policing and the safety of the public.

Receiving the assets on behalf of the Command, the Commissioner of Police, CP Fatai Tijani, expressed profound gratitude to the Lagos State Government and the LSSTF for their sustained support towards strengthening the security architecturein Lagos state.

He emphasized that: "the support would significantly boost the operational readiness of the Violence Crime Response Unit- VCRU and further enhance the Command’s ability to combat violent crime, ensure rapid response to emergencies, safeguard lives and property across Lagos State."

He further reaffirmed the Command’s unwavering commitment to effective policing, proactive crime prevention, and improved public safety, aligning with the broader reform agenda of the Nigeria Police Force.
