CP Tijani Assures LASIEC of Security Backing For Lagos Council By-Elections

The Lagos State Commissioner of Police, CP Fatai Tijani has assured the Lagos State Independent Electoral Commission-LASIEC of adequate security for the upcoming Councillorship By-Elections scheduled for June 23, 2026.

The assurance was given during a courtesy visit by LASIEC officials, led by Chairman Hon. Justice Bola Okikiolu-Ighile (Rtd), to the Command Headquarters in Ikeja on Thursday.

The LASIEC delegation condoled with the Commissioner over the passing of the Deputy Commissioner of Police in charge of Administration-DC Admin, while also congratulating CP Fatai on his recent appointment. The team commended the Lagos State Police Command for its proactive role during previous elections.

Justice Okikiolu-Ighile further briefed the police chief on the upcoming by-elections, which is scheduled to take place in three areas: Ibeju-Lekki Local Government Area (Ward C), Ojuwoye Local Council Development Area (Ward H), and Somolu Local Government Area (Ward F). She sought the Command's continued collaboration to ensure peaceful and credible elections.

In his response, CP Tijani Fatai described the visit as a demonstration of goodwill and institutional partnership. He reassured the delegation of comprehensive security deployment before, during, and after the elections.

"We remain committed to maintaining law and order and ensuring a peaceful electoral process across all affected areas," Fatai stated.

The police boss reiterated the Command's determination to create a secure environment that would enable residents to exercise their civic rights without fear of intimidation or violence.
