A Federal High Court sitting in Lagos has sentenced a 26 years old woman, identified as Bose Jimoh, to seven years imprisonment and imposed a total fine of N4 million for offences related to human trafficking and organizing foreign travels linked to prostitution.
Justice of the court delivered the judgment on May 7, 2026, after finding the defendant guilty on a four-count charge bordering on the exportation of persons for exploitation and arranging foreign trips that promoted prostitution, contrary to Sections 14(b) and 18 of the Trafficking in Persons (Prohibition) Enforcement and Administration Act (TIPPEA) 2015.
The Nigerian government agency responsible for combating human trafficking, child trafficking, forced labour, and other forms of human exploitation, National Agency for the Prohibition of Trafficking in Persons (NAPTIP) filed the charges against Jimoh on October 15, 2025.
According to the court, the convict knowingly organized the movement of persons abroad for exploitative purposes and facilitated foreign travel connected to prostitution activities.
In its ruling, the court sentenced Jimoh to five years imprisonment and a fine of N1 million on Counts 1 and 2 for the exportation of persons with the knowledge that they would be subjected to exploitation.
She was also sentenced to seven years imprisonment and a fine of N1 million each on Counts 3 and 4 for organizing foreign travels that promoted prostitution under the TIPPEA Act 2015.
The court ordered that all prison terms should run concurrently, meaning the convict will serve seven years imprisonment effective from May 7, 2026.
