The Zone 2 Police Command, comprising Lagos and Ogun States, has arrested a 50-year-old Canada returnee, Olushola Ajayi Joshua, in connection with a brazen burglary and theft of properties valued at over N150million Naira.

According to the Assistant Inspector-General of Police AIG Olorundare Jimoh during a press briefing at Zone 2 Headquarters on Tuesday, the suspect was apprehended on Monday, June 1, 2026, at 9:30 pm at the Murtala Muhammed International Airport, Ikeja, Lagos, upon his return from Canada, after he fled the country to evade justice.

“Through a collaborative effort of Zone 2 Zonal Headquarters and INTERPOL, we have successfully apprehended a suspected Canada returnee linked to a case of burglary and stealing.” AIG Jimoh said

According to the police, the case originated from a petition filed on July 11, 2025, by a complainant whose residence on Sesayon Street, GRA, Ikeja, was burgled. The complainant alleged that household properties and valuables worth more than N150 million were carted away.

The complainant stated that she had entrusted the suspect, an accountant at her late father’s company, with a spare key to her apartment during the rainy season of 2022. He was given access to help evacuate rainwater resulting from leakages in the roof. Upon visiting the apartment in July 2025, she discovered it had been burgled.

Following the report, detectives from the Zonal Servicom Team arrested six suspects who had access to the properties. They have since been charged to court. However, investigations revealed that Olushola Ajayi Joshua had fled to Canada in July 2025. After frantic efforts to bring him to justice proved abortive, the Zone 2 Headquarters collaborated with INTERPOL on July 16, 2025, and had his passport flagged.

The suspect was intercepted by the INTERPOL upon his return to Nigeria and was handed over to the Zone 2 Zonal Headquarters on June 2, 2026, for further investigation and prosecution.

“This is also a testament to the result-oriented and deep synergy that exists between the Nigeria Police Force and INTERPOL. This should send a clear warning to would-be criminals that there will be no safe haven for any criminal element anywhere in the world.” AIG Jimoh siad

The suspect is currently in police custody and will be arraigned in court upon the conclusion of the investigation.
