Anambra– Police operatives attached to the Nnewi Central Police Station have recovered a fabricated Beretta pistol and one live round of ammunition during a dramatic chase of suspected motorcycle snatchers in the early hours of Thursday.
According to Anambra state police command public relations officer, SP Tochukwu Ikenga in a statement, the incident occurred along Ukpor Road, Umudim, Nnewi, in Nnewi South Local Government Area, when officers on routine patrol sighted two suspicious individuals riding on a motorcycle.
The operatives immediately began chasing them upon spotting the suspects.
"The Operatives of the Anambra State Police Command attached to Nnewi Central Police Station, while on routine patrol in the morning of 3rd September, 2026, recovered a fabricated Beretta pistol and one live round of ammunition along Ukpor Road, Umudim, Nnewi, Nnewi South Local Government Area.
"The operatives had sighted two suspected motorcycle snatchers riding on a motorcycle and immediately gave them a hot chase. In the course of the pursuit, the suspects abandoned a bag which fell from them while attempting to escape. A search conducted on the bag led to the recovery of the exhibits." The statement reads
The suspects reportedly managed to evade capture, but police say efforts are currently ongoing to apprehend them and bring them to justice.
The Anambra State Police Command has reassured residents of what it described as its "unwavering commitment to crime prevention and the fight against all forms of criminality in the State."
