Anambra police dismiss military helicopter alert

** Secure remand of couple in child abuse case

** Investigate suspected baby trafficker

The Anambra State Police Command has clarified what it describes as a false security alert circulating on social media, which claimed that a military helicopter had dropped unknown items in a bush along the boundary between Nimo and Adazi-Nnukwu in Anaocha Local Government Area, of the state.

In a statement issued Thursday by the Command's Public Relations Officer, SP Tochukwu Ikenga, the police disclosed that operatives were immediately deployed to the area for verification following the report.

"Findings revealed that the alleged location remains calm, with no suspicious objects or any security concerns observed. Normal activities continue within and around the area, while security operatives maintain routine surveillance to ensure public safety and sustain public confidence." The statement reads

Commissioner of Police, CP Ikioye Orutugu, urged members of the public to disregard the false alarm and desist from spreading unverified information capable of causing panic and undermining public confidence in the state's security architecture.

The CP reiterated the Command's commitment to proactive policing and intelligence-led operations, encouraging residents to verify security-related information through official channels and report suspicious activities to the nearest police station.

Court Remands Couple Over Alleged Abuse of 10-Year-Old Boy

In a separate development, the Command has secured the remand of Mr Chukwudi Chukwuyere, 40, and his wife, Mrs Chisom Chukwuyere, 30, in a correctional centre over their alleged involvement in the abuse of a 10-year-old boy in Isiowulu.

“The suspects were arraigned in court following the conclusion of preliminary investigations into the case, which attracted public concern after reports and video footage of the victim surfaced on social media.” The statement reads

The police commended residents of the area for their vigilance, cooperation, and timely provision of information that led to the rescue of the child, ensuring he received necessary medical attention while the suspects were apprehended.

Police Rescue Female Suspect from Mob in Alleged Child Trafficking Incident

Meanwhile, the Command has commenced investigation into an alleged child trafficking incident after police operatives attached to Awada Divisional Headquarters rescued a female suspect from an angry mob at Divine Mercy Hospital, Eze Iweka Road, Awada, Obosi.

Police said the suspect, Anurika Nweme, aged 37, allegedly gained access to the hospital premises on the afternoon of June 23, 2026, disguised in attire resembling that of a nurse. She was observed making secret video recordings of newborn babies in the maternity ward.

The suspect is currently in protective custody and assisting investigating officers in identifying others involved in the alleged criminal network.

The police assured that further developments on the investigations would be communicated accordingly.
