2027: Tinubu’s support base has diminished nationwide—Aisha Yesufu

Nigerian activist and senatorial aspirant on the platform of the Nigeria Democratic Congress, NDC, Aisha Yesufu, has said President Bola Tinubu’s political support has significantly declined across the country ahead of the 2027 general elections.

Speaking on Sunday Politics, Yesufu said many Nigerians who supported Tinubu in the 2023 presidential election had become disillusioned with his administration due to what she described as poor governance, lack of accountability and worsening economic hardship.

According to her, “If there’s any one person whose support base has depreciated, it’s definitely Mr. Bola Ahmed Tinubu. You see it all over the country how people are tired of APC.

“A large number of Nigerians, particularly in the North, who believed Tinubu would deliver good governance, are now disappointed by the outcome of his administration.
“There were people who believed that Mr. Bola Ahmed Tinubu was going to give good governance and they have seen how he has failed,” she stated.

The former BringBackOurGirls campaigner further alleged that the President had also lost substantial goodwill in the northern region, which she said played a crucial role in the outcome of the 2023 election.

“You also see the relationship between Bola Ahmed Tinubu and the northern part of the country and how he has failed so much,” she added.
Yesufu, however, maintained that the support base of Labour Party’s 2023 presidential candidate, Peter Obi, had continued to expand since the last election.

According to her, many Nigerians who were initially sceptical about Obi’s chances in 2023 had now become convinced that he could win a future presidential election.
“One of the things Nigerians have seen is consistency. Peter Obi did not pack his bags after the election. From 2023 till date, he has remained with the people,” she said.

She also reiterated her belief that the 2023 presidential election was rigged, insisting that Obi won the poll despite the court ruling affirming Tinubu’s victory.
“I still maintain that he didn’t win the 2023 election; it was rigged. That’s my position,” she declared.

On her senatorial ambition in the Federal Capital Territory, FCT, Yesufu said she was entering partisan politics to move beyond advocacy into active governance and accountability.

She said her goal was to pursue people-centred leadership anchored on direct engagement with residents across wards in the FCT.
“Yes, I’m taking advocacy into politics because I want to make a difference and leave a legacy Nigerians will remember positively,” she said.
